Green Resources believes that effective stakeholder engagement across its operations is vital to the success of the business. In line with aiming to take a more structured approach to stakeholder engagement and management, GR has dedicated Environmental and Social Governance teams, overseen by the Sustainability and Stakeholder Relations Manager in London, and the company’s ESG Director who is based in Uganda.
The needs of GR’s stakeholders are carefully considered when developing strategies and undertaking projects. GR has been working with an external consultancy companies (Monkey Forest Consulting, Coastal Environmental Services, and Forestry Solutions) on developing stakeholder management strategies. As part of the implementation of the new strategies GR aims to ensure that each stakeholder group is informed about key messages and mediums depending on the stakeholder group. GR has increased its engagement with local communities through a number of events and meetings.
GR staff get involved in local events and the subsidiaries hold various open-days and stakeholder meetings to allow for effective feedback and communication with our stakeholder groups. These events help to build better relationships between GR and the local communities beyond formal engagement.
Internal stakeholders are a vital part of GRs effective engagement with stakeholders. GR seeks to ensure all its staff are well informed, and kept up to date with all activities and policies that are relevant to them and their work. As part of its engagement with staff, across its operations, GR has a number of works councils, housing committees, Health and Safety Committees, H&S representatives, workers/contractors committees, and workers unions. In addition, GR has been sending out press releases and newsletters to staff to inform them of the company’s activities. In addition, a new company handbook, and policy document, have been developed and are in the process of being disseminated to all staff.
GR is committed to improving its stakeholder management, and will seek to do so at all given opportunities. At present the company is developing its internal and external communications. In addition, Green Resources subsidiaries are currently implementing the company’s new stakeholder engagement plan which was developed in 2015 with MFC, and the company’s systematic grievance management approach.
