Six new Boreholes built in Nampula Province, Mozambique 06/07/15

6th July 2015

Over the past few months Green Resources has built six new boreholes in communities adjacent to the operations of Lurio GR. The boreholes were built in Napipine, Napai and Muthapua communities in Mecúburi District, and Messa, Lancheque and Meparara communities in Ribáuè District. Access to clean water is typically one of the most attractive projects amongst communities in Nampula District. The boreholes (which provide clean water) were therefore provided in response to villagers’ request. The access to clean water, has significant positive impacts on the heath of local people, as well as other socioeconomic benefits. During the dry period, it takes significant time to fetch water, an activity typically undertaken by women.

The cost paid to the contractors was US $60,000 and significant indirect costs were also incurred in association to the projects. Lurio GR looks forward to working with local communities in the future, and to continue supporting the implementation of further community development projects.
