Announcement of new Chief Financial Officer- Robert Thompson and Appointment of Forestry Director

Green Resources is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert Thompson as group CFO with effect of 1 October 2014.  Robert born 19977 is a British National. Robert was previously Group Finance Director at Aurora Lighting, a global manufacturer and distributor of lighting with factories in China, France and UK. Previous to this Robert was CFO at Harvard International Plc, a UK listed consumer electronics distributor, and led the sale of the business to a listed Chinese manufacturer. Robert received his Chartered Accountant qualifications (ACA) at PwC and is a graduate from Warwick University in mathematics. 

Robert will represent a major strengthening of the company’s corporate finance capacity as well as providing closer management of our African accounting and finance operations. He replaces Jannicke-Koch Hagen who left Green Resources after seven critical and successful years as CFO to take up a position as CFO for another Norwegian company.  Robert will be part of the Executive Director Group, and head up all accounting, corporate finance, legal and IT functions.

Furthermore, we are pleased to announce that Marek Guizot with immediate effect will take on the position as Forestry Director, expanding his responsibilities from his current position as Planning and Development Director.  Marek joined Green Resources in 1 May this year after 20 years in various management functions with Mondi Plc and Poyry Management Consulting. 

Background

Green Resources is Africa’s leading forestation company and a leader in East African wood manufacturing. The company has 41,000 ha of standing forest in Mozambique, Tanzania and Uganda, established through its own planting activities. It operates East Africa’s largest sawmill in Tanzania and electricity pole and charcoal plants in Mozambique, Tanzania and Uganda and is also one of the first global companies to receive carbon revenue from its plantation forests.

Green Resources was established in 1995 and is a private Norwegian company with 80 shareholders. It employs more than 4,000 people and has invested USD 250 mn equity in its African operations since its inception. Green Resources holds land to establish more than 100,000 ha of additional plantations to serve the growing regional and global demand for wood products. Its strategy is based on growing wood for both traditional uses (sawn timber, panel board, pulp, etc.) and for the growing bio-energy sector. It is a leader in carbon finance. Green Resources has probably planted more new forest than any other organization in Africa during the past ten years.
