Every year, on the 8th March people around the world join together to celebrate International Women's Day (IWD). The theme of 2018 was ‘Press for Progress’, encouraging people to reflect on how they can help to advance gender equality. IWD is an occasion to celebrate the progress made towards achieving gender equality and women's empowerment, but also to critically reflect on continued inequalities, and strive for a greater momentum towards gender equality worldwide. It is a day to recognize the extraordinary acts of women and to stand together, as a united force.

To celebrate IWD 2018, a group of Women from GRL Tanzania Limited (GRL), and Sao Hill Industries Ltd (SHI) visited Ihefu Primary School located in Sao Hill, Mafinga, to make a donation of uniforms, stationary and learning materials to orphaned children at the school. Ihefu Primary school was established in 1978 and has 278 pupils (girls and boys), with 43 orphans. The women spent time at the school meeting the children, and thoroughly enjoyed meeting the kids, and being able to demonstrate to the students what women can achieve.

In addition to visiting Ihefy Primary School, the women also participated in the District level IWD celebrations held in Mafinga, officiated by the member of Parliament Hon. Rose Tweve. The women took part in a march to raise awareness, and took part in the information sharing event.

Green Resources AS (GRAS) is committed to improving gender equality both within the organisation’s companies, and in the communities in which it operates. GRAS is grateful to all the women who help to keep our operations running, and hopes that more women will join our teams in the future.
