Board of Directors

The Board of Directors is responsible for the governance of the Company and for the proper organisation of its activities in accordance with the legislation and the Articles of Association. The Board of Directors establish the strategy, organisation, accounting and control of the Company and appoint the Managing Director and CEO, who acts in accordance with the orders of the Board of Directors and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Company’s affairs.

The subsidiary companies have in-house boards consisting of Green Resources’ employees. The company has advisory boards with external members in all key countries of operations.

Chris Pienaar, Chairman,

South African. Chris was a Director of Green Resources from 2017 to February 2018. He was MD of Merensky Timber for six years until 1998 and developed South Africa's largest solid woods products company at the time. He was then appointed Group CEO of Hans Merensky Holding (HMH), the holding company of the Merensky Timbers and Westfalia Fruit until 2011. Since 2011 he has been the CEO of the Hans Merensky FOundation, the largest Shareholder of HMH and was CEO of New Forest Company Tanzania. Most recently he worked as a consultant and Non-Executive Director of HMH and the HM Foundation. 

Mads Asprem

Norwegian. BSc in Economics Wharton School, USA, 1983, MBA, Univ. of Chicago, USA, 1987. First VP, equity analyst and head of the global forest products and paper research team at Merrill Lynch 2000-05. Managing Director and head of forest products and paper global research team of Morgan Stanley 1991-00. Equity analyst CSFB 1990-91. Consultant Monitor Company 1987-89. Portfolio manager Storebrand 1984-85. Met as substitute member to the Norwegian Parliament. Established Green Resources in 1995 and took over as Managing Director in 2006.

Mutuma Marangu

Kenyan. Director of GR from 2003 - 2016. He has worked in physical comodities for 25 years including 12 years with Glencoe, as well as working for Philipp Brothers and Morgan Stanley. Currently an investor and Director in a number of East African agriculture, agri-processing, and renewable energy companies, and real estate development. Member of London Stock Echange's Africa Advisory Group from 2015; USAID's Private Capital group since 2014; as well as the Kenya Capital Markets Authority's Capital Markets Master Plan Implementation Committee since 2014.

Aadu Polli

Estonian. Industrial Director of Green Resources 2009 - 2015. Currently an entrepreneur and Executive Chairman of three companies (mature and start-up companies) with operations in Bulgaria, Estonia and Kenya.

Charles Scott

British. Was Chairman of Sao Hill Agricultre, a subsidiary of Green Resources in Tanzania. Shareholder of Green Resources. Has a background in finance, and was a Managing Director at Morgan Stanley for Many years.
